In 1994, at 24 years old, she went back to the Philippines and founded the New Voice Company (NVC) theatre group, with a vision to awaken, inspire and transform audiences with socially provocative and innovative theatre work. From 1994 to the present, she has given critically acclaimed performances for her leading roles in Oleanna, Angels In America parts 1 and 2, Chess the Musical, Top Girls, My Sister In This House, Classical Monique, The Vagina Monologues, Cabaret, Aspects of Love, and The Good Body, among many others. For other theatre companies in the Philippines she has starred in The Glass Menagerie, Threepenny Opera and the original Philippine musicals Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo. Her most recent theatre performance was her star turn as Maria in Repertory Philippines’ The Sound of Music.

She has also directed many of the New Voice Company’s acclaimed productions. As NVC’s Artistic Director, Monique has steered the company into one of Asia’s leading theatre companies, continuing her ground-breaking work as Artistic Director, Director and Actress, not just in the Philippines, but in Hong Kong, Singapore and Japan, where New Voice Company regularly tours.

Aside from her theatre work, she has also continued to do television, films, recordings and concerts. Recent concerts include Monique: 25 Years In Theatre, Monique Sings Gershwin and Monique In Concert, among many others. She recently recorded a highly acclaimed Gershwin album in Japan.
